about

THIS ALBUM IS DEDICATED TO MY BROTHER DONOVAN HYTER AKA D-SQUEEZE WHO DIED ON JUNE 30TH, 2013. ALTHOUGH HE ONLY LIVED ON THIS EARTH FOR 21 YEARS HIS INFLUENCE ON ME AND THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM WILL LAST A LIFETIME. THE WORLD LOST A LEGEND AND I'M GONNA REP FOR HIM EVERY CHANCE I GET AND CARRY ON HIS LEGACY. I LOVE YOU BRO!

#LongLiveSqueeze

My inspiration for "so illegal" goes all the way back to early 2011 when I watched a documentary called "ANVIL: The Story Of Anvil." It was a documentary of this heavy metal band called ANVIL and how their lead singer/guitarist is in his mid forties still pursuing his rock and roll dreams. It was then that I realized that creating and performing music is the sole reason I'm on this planet. By the summer/fall of 2011, when I was living in Seattle, I got into the habit of working just to stay broke. Working 40 hours a week just to spend all your money on bills and groceries just to go back to work again on Monday (sometimes even the weekends). The original concept for "so illegal" was just to make a bunch of beats with really obvious samples from well know artist and songs. As I kept writing and adding to the project I realized that this project was me saying that I plan on going against the grain and pursuing my dreams of being a recording artist living off his art until I die. That's why I choose to have the cover be a pair of dress shoes set on fire. Cause everybody has that one pair of "job interview shoes" that they wear when they want to be "taken seriously." With this cover I'm saying that I can be taken seriously no matter what I wear as long as my music is good and means something to me. It's not to mean any disrespect to anybody with a desk job or somebody who is just trying to make ends meet. We all have our goals, ambitions, and methods in this life, and these are mine. I started the writing process for this project while living in Seattle and spending all day working and all night trying to build connections in a city where I only knew 2 people. When I moved back to Ann Arbor I got in an even deeper depression trying to regain my footing in a music scene that I used to be so involved in. That's why I spent all of 2012 finishing "so illegal" and thinking of different ways to market and promote it that would make the impact more prominent then some of my past releases. This is my most personal work to date and it's because I went through different life experiences that inspired me to tap into a part of my brain I had been ignoring. So without any further adieu, I am proud to present to you... so illegal.
